Chanukah – Festival Of Light– Yeshua The Light In The Darkness

 

I.                   In the beginning – Genesis 1:1-4

Light – 0215.     'owr,  ore

a primitive root; to be (causative, make) luminous (literally and metaphorically):--X break of day, glorious, kindle, (be, en-, give, show) light (-en, -ened), set on fire, shine.

 

Shares the same root as the word Torah

 

Psalm 139:12, John 1: 1-5

 

Light is an important concept in the Bible, whether literal or metaphorical.

 

II.                 Gods pillar of fire displayed God’s glory when the sons of Israel wandered in the Wilderness – Exodus 13:2, 21-22

 

III.             Signifies life in contrast to death

IV.              Priestly Blessing (Shine=light)

V.                 Light can also symbolize prosperity

In Job29:3  we have 3 Hebrew Words for Light

#1. Lamp- Nerah – a light, a lamp, prosperity, instruction

#2. Halal – to be bright, to shine, to be splendid, to boost, to praise,

      celebrate, glorify

#3. Light – OWR’- (Towrah = teaching and instruction, same root word    #8451)

 

In Psalm 36:9 – We have the word Life #2416- Chay. In the Light is Life

Chay means: living, alive, have life, remain alive, sustain life, live prosperously, live forever, be awakened, revive from sickness, discouragement or even death, vigorous, raw, fresh running (water)

 

 

 

 

Chay is a set of experiences not an abstract principle of vitality which is separate from the body.  The Hebrews viewed man  holistically i.e. body, mind and spirit were a united whole- Life was associated with health, prosperity and vitality- death was the opposite

Darkness is associated with death, failure, suffering, folly and sin.

 

Light is associated with life, salvation, prosperity, wisdom & justice

Light also can equal Word – Yeshua Is The Torah/Word, The Light, The Life

We do not run from the darkness – we go towards it to bring light.  Light ALWAYS dispels darkness.
