Quote Of The Day:

Daniel Juster – “Jewish Roots”

“The Torah is the Pivot of Judaism, for in the Torah is recorded, the  creation, The Flood, the call of Abraham, the lives of the Patriarchs, the sojourn in Egypt, the rescue from Egyptian bondage and the revelation of the priestly sacrificial system which for shadow the work of Messiah Himself”

Deborah’s Drash Commentary:

Gleanings from Psalm 119

Vs. 66 Teach me good judgment, wise and right discernment, and knowledge, for I have believed (trusted, relied on and clung to) Your commandments.

God teachs through His Torah/Word, His wisdom is found on every page and the indwelling of His Holy Spirit gives us good judgment and discernment and revelation Knowledge in His Word.

One of the purposes of His Torah/Word was to teach us Wisdom.  Solomon knew true Wisdom was found in the Torah/Word of Yahweh.

Proverbs 1:2-5 Amplified Bible

That people may know skillful and godly Wisdom and instruction, discernment and comprehend the words of understanding and insight.

Receive instruction in wise dealings and discipline of wise dealings and the discipline of wise thoughtfulness, righteousness, justice and integrity.

That prudence may be given to the simple, and knowledge, discretion, and discernment to the youth.

The wise also will hear and increase in learning, and the person of understanding will acquire skill and attain sound counsel (so that he may be able to steer his course rightly)

Key to Wisdom and learning – For I have believed Your commandments (mitzvot)-There is  a great reward for walking in them.

Vs. 67 Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now Your word do I keep (hearing, receiving, loving and obeying it)

When God needs to chastise us, He uses His Torah/Word and We have His Ruach HaKodesh/ Holy Spirit within us to keep us walking in the Way (derech) – The path of life delineated for the Redeemed in the Torah.    (Later one of our  monthly study themes will be the work of the Ruach HaKodesh in the life of the Messianic Believer)

We open the door for the evil one to afflict us when we turn away from doing His Torah/Word.

 “Ya’acov/James 4:7 Amplified Bible

So be subject to God. Resist the devil (stand firm against him) and he will flee from you.

To be subject to God is to submit to His Torah/Word.  We resist Ha satan with the Word of God the same way Yeshua did in His wilderness testing.

Mattiyahu/Matthew 4:1-11

4  1 Then the Spirit led Yeshua up into the wilderness to be tempted by the Adversary. 2 After Yeshua had fasted forty-days and nights, he was hungry. 3 The Tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, order these stones to become bread.” 4 But he answered, “The Tanakh says,

‘Man does not live on bread alone,

but on every word that comes from the mouth of Adonai’ ”

5 Then the Adversary took him to the holy city and set him on the highest point of the Temple . 6 “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “jump! For the Tanakh says,

‘He will order his angels to be responsible for you.

They will support you with their hands,

so that you will not hurt your feet on the stones.’ ”

7 Yeshua replied to him, “But it also says, ‘Do not put Adonai your God to the test.’ ”

8 Once more, the Adversary took him up to the summit of a very high mountain, showed him all the kingdoms of the world in all their glory, 9 and said to him, “All this I will give you if you will bow down and worship me.” 10 “Away with you, Satan!” Yeshua told him, “For the Tanakh says,

‘Worship Adonai your God, and serve only him.’”

11 Then the Adversary let him alone, and angels came and took care of him.[2]

Hebrews 4:12 Amplified Bible

For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power (making it active, operative, energizing, and effective) it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and (the immortal) spirit, and of joints and marrow (of the deepest parts of our nature), exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.

Ya’acov/James 6:7 Amplified

Do not be deceived and deluded and misled; God will not allow Himself to be sneered at (scorned, disdained, or mocked by mere pretensions or professions, or by His precepts (pikudim)- Particular guidelines for the Redeemed[3]) being set aside). (He inevitably deludes himself who attempts to delude God.) For whatever a man sows, that and only that will he reap.

Vs. 68 You are good and kind and do good, teach me Your statutes.

The Word says Yahweh is:

Mans’ portion  - Psalm 119: 57 ‘Thou art my portion O Lord….”

Good – Psalm 119:68 “You are good and kind and do good….”

A Hiding Place – Psalm 119:114a – “Thou art my hiding place…..”

A Shield- Psalm 114b “And my shield…”

Righteous – Psalm 119:137 “Righteous are thou O Lord…..”

Near to man-Psalm 119:151 “Thou art near O Lord….”

The more we study His Torah/Word -(hearing, receiving, loving and obeying it)

The closer we will be to God.   God created us for fellowship with Him, we find fellowship with God through His word and through Prayer.

22 And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:

23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:

24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

  Gen 5:22-24 (KJV)

The Hebrew word for walked is “Halak” – to walk up and down, be conversant

Can you imagine, walking so closely with God that you end up walking right into  heaven, and into His presence  without dying!  Enoch did!

If you want to stay free from deception, then fill yourself with His Word (hearing, receiving, loving and obeying it).  If you want to be more like Yeshua then love His Torah/Word by (hearing, receiving, loving and obeying it).  To love Yahweh, is to love His Torah/Word.  He has revealed Himself through His Word, it is in His Word that you will find peace, comfort, joy and direction and answers for your life.

If You Love Yahweh then you Will obey His Torah/Word.  If you Love Yeshua, then you will obey His Words.

And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

[1] An excellent Torah Devotional is the Walk Series, Walk Genesis, Walk Exodus, Walk Leviticus, Walk Number, Walk Deuteronomy , by Jeffery Enoch Feinberg, PHD by Lederer Books, a division of Messianic Jewish Publishers.   Easy to read, with Hebrew nuggets, and illustrations. Also FFOZ Torah Club is a more detailed study, and worth enrolling for.

[2]The Jewish New Testament, (Clarksville, MD: Jewish New Testament Publications) 1996.

[3] I inserted the red portion to emphasize Precepts.

[4]The Jewish New Testament, (Clarksville, MD: Jewish New Testament Publications) 1996.

[i] The Psalmist found great value in the Torah of God.  Here in Psalm 119 he breaks the Torah down into eight different categories

-Law (Torah) – Connotes the whole will of God as imparted to man for his teaching

-Testimonies (edot)- Revelation (Torah) as a witness of God and His righteousness

-Precepts (pikudim)- Particular guidelines for the Redeemed

-Way (derech) – The path of life delineated for the Redeemed in the Torah

-Commandments (mitzvot)-There is  a great reward for walking in them

-Statutes (hukim)—Permanent laws regulating the life of an individual as a member of society

-Ordinances (mishpatim, beter translated “judgments”) The judicial standard for fair dealings

-Word (debar or imrah) – General term for the expressed will of God

[ii] An excellent Messianic Jewish Devotional called The Walk Series, Walk Genesis, Walk Exodus, Walk Leviticus, Walk Numbers and Walk Deuteronomy by Jeffery Enoch Feinburg, PhD.  Published by Lederer Books Messianic Jewish Publishers is a wonderful Daily Devotional to use for studying Torah, along with FFOZ Torah Club which is more detailed.  Both will give you additional insights into Torah.
