Quote Of The Day:

Torah Rediscovered – Berkowitz  p.13

“Through Yeshua’s teachings run the underlying assumption that God’s covenant people are to have a living meaningful and on going relationship to Torah.  In other words in Yeshua’s thinking, one of the Torah’s main purposes is to describe the lifestyle of the redeemed community”

Deborah’s Drash Commentary:

Gleanings From Psalm 119

Vs.72 The law from Your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces

7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.

9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.

12 Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.

13 Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.

14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

  Psalms 19:7-14 (KJV)

The Word of Yahweh is priceless.   I can not even imagine what it would be like not having His Word with me and in my heart, my Bible is my most precious possession, and if someone told me that I had to leave my home and I could only take one personal possession with me, I would take my Bible for my salvation is found within its pages.

Do we desire His word above all the gold and silver in the World?  What are some of the benefits of the Torah/Word of Yahweh?

#1. The Law (Law (Torah) – Connotes the whole will of God as imparted to man for his teaching) is perfect – There is no flaw in His Word (I am speaking of the original Hebrew texts) -  It is the Word that shows humanity that they are  in a need of a Redeemer and it is His Word that has brought us to Messiah Yeshua – The savior of the World.

#2. The Testimony (Testimonies (edot)- Revelation (Torah) as a witness of God and His righteousness)

of Lord is sure, making wise the simple – God is righteous, just and those who fear Him he gives wisdom and understanding on how to operate in the Kingdom of Yahweh, His Kingdom of Righteousness.  Yeshua/Jesus also taught us in the Brit Hadasha/New Testament how to walk in the Kingdom of God.

- 6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

7 He layeth up sound wisdom (Hebrew - Towshiyah or tushiyah – The meaning is help, aid, support, to lift up (that which is erect), salvation, insight, wisdom, counsel, understanding) for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.

  Prov 2:6-7 (KJV)

#3.The Statues of the Lord are right (-Statutes (hukim)—Permanent laws regulating the life of an individual as a member of society) – It is in His Word that we find out how a Holy community is to live.   His Torah/Word, regulations are right – anything outside His Word is wrong.

#4. The Commandment of the Lord is pure (-Commandments (mitzvot)-There is  a great reward for walking in them) enlightening the eye.  There is great reward in being a doer of the Torah/Word.   As we study the Word it reveals God and His glory to us, and the beauty of His love for mankind as seen in the Life, Death and Resurrection of Yeshua Ha Mashiach/ Jesus the Messiah and tells us how we are to live as His Holy people.

#5. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever.  What does it mean to fear the Lord?  It means to be in awe of Him , to respect, to trust and reverence Him because He is Holy, He is Yahweh, He is the Creator and we are His sheep.  It means to tremble for joy in His presence.  It means to love Him and to be in awe of His mercy, compassion, grace and Love.

Hebrew Honey

16 Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.

  Prov 15:16 (KJV)

31 And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses.

  Ex 14:31 (KJV)

Yarah means – To reverance, to Trust

5 Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee.

  Isaiah 60:5 (KJV)

Fear – Yarah – To tremble for joy.

There is a Godly fear that Yahwehs people need to walk in as shown above.  But there is also a  fear must also grip the heart of the lost and  ungodly who need to repent, lest they die in their sins and  will then stand before the Holy One of Israel  whom they have spurned and rejected by rejecting His Son Yeshua Ha Mashiach/ Jesus The Messiah.

7 Wherefore now let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.

  2 Chron 19:7 (KJV)

Pachad means:- To tremble, to be in trepidation, to be on ones guard, terror

28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

  Matt 10:28 (KJV)

#6 The Judgements (Ordinances (mishpatim, beter translated “judgments”) The judicial standard for fair dealings)

of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.   God is fair and just with His dealings with mankind, He has provided a way of escape through Yeshua Ha Mashiach, those who reject His Torah/Word will be righteously judged by His Torah/Word. They are judged because He provided atonement for their sins through Yeshua and they rejected His provisions.

18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

  John 3:18 (KJV)

Vs. 73 Your hands have made me, cunningly fashioned and established me; give me understanding that I may learn your commandments

We need to remember where we came from and who brought us into being, we are to submit to the Lord are Maker and ask Him to teach us through His Ruach HaKodesh/ Holy Spirit.

14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

  Psalms 139:14-16 (KJV)

It is Yahweh who gave us life and the free will to serve Him.  Those who serve Him out of love and obedience and fear, He loves with an everlasting Love (Ahavah Olam). This Ahavah Olam is found in Yeshua HaMashiach.

3 The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.

  Jer 31:3 (KJV)

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

  John 3:16-21 (KJV)

Vs 74 Those who reverently and worshipfully fear You will see me and be glad, because I have hoped in Your word and tarried for it.

We are to Hope in His Word and Tarry (wait) for His promises to be fulfilled in our lives,we do this by standing in faith on His Word through prayer.  Remember He is watching over his Word to perform it in our lives.

5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.

  Psalms 42:5 (KJV)

22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.

23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?

25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

  Romans 8:22-28 (KJV)

17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,

20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,

21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:

22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,

23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

  Eph 1:17-23 (KJV)

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,

5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

6 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:

7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

  1 Peter 1:3-9 (KJV)

18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:

19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;

  Heb 6:18-19 (KJV)

1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

  Heb 11:1 (KJV)

Yahweh will fulfill His Word, His every promise to us who have put our Hope in Messiah Yeshua, and He will fulfull every promise and prophecy concerning Israel, for it is impossible for Yahweh to lie.  His Torah/Word is Truth.

Our Messiah’s prayer was this

17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

John 17:17 (KJV)

17 Set them apart for holiness by means of the truth your word is truth. [2]

[i] The Psalmist found great value in the Torah of God.  Here in Psalm 119 he breaks the Torah down into eight different categories

-Law (Torah) – Connotes the whole will of God as imparted to man for his teaching

-Testimonies (edot)- Revelation (Torah) as a witness of God and His righteousness

-Precepts (pikudim)- Particular guidelines for the Redeemed

-Way (derech) – The path of life delineated for the Redeemed in the Torah

-Commandments (mitzvot)-There is  a great reward for walking in them

-Statutes (hukim)—Permanent laws regulating the life of an individual as a member of society

-Ordinances (mishpatim, beter translated “judgments”) The judicial standard for fair dealings

-Word (debar or imrah) – General term for the expressed will of God
