Quote Of The Day:

Torah Rediscovered – Berkowitz  p.15

“The Torah then is far more then a grand list of laws that are impossible to keep.  It is an instructional document, teaching about God and His ways, a legal covenant between God and Israel.  The National Constitution of Israel describing how the  Great King Himself wants His nation to function, within His kingdom and a sacred marriage covenant between God (The Groom) and Israel (His Bride)”

Deborah’s  comment - I might add that if you belong to Messiah then you are a part of Israel and His Bride for you have been grafted into the Olive Tree.  Romans 11

Deborah’s Drash Commentary:

Gleanings From Psalm 119

Vs. 78 Let the proud be put to shame, for they dealt perversely with me without a cause; but I will meditate on Your Precepts

One day the proud, those who have rejected the Torah/Word will be put to shame, for it will be the same Torah/Word that they rejected that will  judge them in the end.

When the enemy comes against us with his lies that are contrary to the Torah/Word we need to remember what His Word says, and meditate upon His promises, knowing that in the end we will be victorious in Messiah.

Hebrew Honey – Meditate- Hagah- To speak with oneself in a low voice, to think out loud on something. This is done in order to keep the mind on what would be a proper word or answer.

This is why it is important to speak His Word out loud, and to pray the Word, as you hear yourself speak forth His promises, it strengthens your heart and your faith.  There is power in the spoken Word of God. We are to speak forth His word day and night.  It is the Word spoken in the name of Yeshua that has the power to defeat the enemy and bring us victory in every area of our life.

1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

  Psalms 1:1-3 (KJV)

8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

  Josh 1:8 (KJV)

15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.

16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

  1 Tim 4:15-16 (KJV)

Vs.79 Let those who reverently and worshipfully fear You turn to me, and those who have know Your testimonies.

Vs. 80 Let my heart be sound (sincere and wholehearted and blameless) in Your statutes, that I may not be put to shame

According to Websters defintion – sound means to be 1. free from defect, damage or decay, whole and in good condition.

Our prayer should be daily that our heart would be sound and free from any evil thought entering into it. We need to guard our heart from anything that would defile or contaminate it.  We need to fill our heart with His Torah/Word.  There are over 750 references to the heart in the Word of God.  The heart is the seat of the mind, will and emotions, and it must be guarded by the Word of God.  It is important to watch what we say  (we all need help in this area and I include myself when I say we)– “Lashan hara”  our words are powerful and we need to speak in line with the Word of God and  what will please Yahweh.

20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.

21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.

22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

24 Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.

25 Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.

26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.

27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.

  Prov 4:20-27 (KJV)

Soundness of Heart Comes from meditating on His Word

7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.

  Prov 2:7 (KJV)

21 My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:

22 So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.

23 Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.

24 When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.

  Prov 3:21-24 (KJV)

13 Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

  2 Tim 1:13 (KJV)

3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

  2 Tim 4:3 (KJV)

9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

  Titus 1:9 (KJV)

1 But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:

2 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.

3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;

4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,

5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

6 Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.

7 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,

8 Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

9 Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again;

10 Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.

11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,

12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

15 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

  Titus 2:1-15 (KJV)

Soundness of heart comes from the Word, not church traditions or doctrines.  If your doctrines are not based upon the Word of God, and if your traditions are not found in the Word then you are building your spiritual house upon sand.  Your spiritual house must be built upon the Rock of His Torah/Word.

[1] An excellent Torah Devotional is the Walk Series, Walk Genesis, Walk Exodus, Walk Leviticus, Walk Number, Walk Deuteronomy , by Jeffery Enoch Feinberg, PHD by Lederer Books, a division of Messianic Jewish Publishers.   Easy to read, with Hebrew nuggets, and illustrations. Also FFOZ Torah Club is a more detailed study, and worth enrolling for.

[2]The Jewish New Testament, (Clarksville, MD: Jewish New Testament Publications) 1996.

[i] The Psalmist found great value in the Torah of God.  Here in Psalm 119 he breaks the Torah down into eight different categories

                -Law (Torah) – Connotes the whole will of God as imparted to man for his teaching

                -Testimonies (edot)- Revelation (Torah) as a witness of God and His righteousness

                -Precepts (pikudim)- Particular guidelines for the Redeemed

                -Way (derech) – The path of life delineated for the Redeemed in the Torah

                -Commandments (mitzvot)-There is  a great reward for walking in them

                -Statutes (hukim)—Permanent laws regulating the life of an individual as a member of society

                -Ordinances (mishpatim, beter translated “judgments”) The judicial standard for fair dealings

                -Word (debar or imrah) – General term for the expressed will of God
