Quote Of The Day:

Torah Rediscovered – Berkowitz  p.26

“Because the Torah tells us the truth, the difference between clean and unclean, life and death, it is both a protection for us and a written revelation of the grace of God”

Deborah’s Drash Commentary:

Gleanings From Psalm 119

Vs. 89 Forever, O Lord Your word is settled in heaven (stands firm as the heavens)

Dakes Notes[2] –Settled -  Stands fast without change, as the plan of God for man is declared to be

2 For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens.

  Psalms 89:2 (KJV)

34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

  Matt 24:34-35 (KJV)

31 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

  Mark 13:31 (KJV)

23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:

25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

  1 Peter 1:23-25 (KJV)

His Word is forever settled (seated in Heaven) so we can have confidence and hope as we stand on His promises that if God said it then we can be sure that it will come to pass.

Vs. 90 Your faithfulness is from generation to generation; You have established the earth, and it stands fast.

Dakes Notes – The faithfulness of God is also eternal, unto all generations.  His Word is eternal and His promise sure.

He is faithful to watch over His Word to perform it, His promises will never fail. His Word is our hope and meditating on them will give us the faith we need to prevail in this life.

The Messiah is Proclaimed (Yeshua Ha Mashiach) and He will rule the earth according to His Word

6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

  Isaiah 9:6-7 (KJV)

44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

45 Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.

  Dan 2:44-45 (KJV)

13 I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.

14 And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

  Dan 7:13-14 (KJV)

We shall Rule and Reign with Messiah/Christ according to His Word forever.

18 But the saints of the most High shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever.

  Dan 7:18 (KJV)

Messiah/Christ will reign forever and ever according to His Word

32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:

33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

  Luke 1:32-33 (KJV)

15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

  Rev 11:15 (KJV)

The Tabernacle of God will be with us and we will be with Him forever and ever according to His Word.

3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

  Rev 21:3-7 (KJV)

We shall see Him face to face according to His Word.

4 And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.

5 And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.

  Rev 22:4-5 (KJV)

Vs 91 All (the whole universe) are Your servants; therefore they continue the day according to Your ordinances.

Dakes comments – God’s ordinances include the regulation of the heavens and the earth and all things therein according to fixed laws that are eternal.  Billions of suns, moons and stars go in their own orbits and regulates life on the many planets in space, according to fixed and eternal laws.  Each star is a sun to another planet like our sun is to our planet earth.  Wherever there is life, it is sustained by the ordinances of God established according to His eternal plan for each planet and the particular needs of life thereon.  Without the sun, moon and stars regulating day and night, and times and seasons, life on the planet earth would soon become extinct”

Not only intelligent life on earth and life in the heavens are God’s servants, but the material creations themselves are His servants to sustain life on the various planets.

 10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;

12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

  Col 1:10-18 (KJV)

35 And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?

  Dan 4:35 (KJV)

He is the creator of ALL according to His Torah/Word.

14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.

16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.

17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,

18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.

19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.

21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.

23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.

25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

  Gen 1:14-28 (KJV)

22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

  Gen 8:22 (KJV)

Vs 92 Unless Your law had been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction

Faith comes by hearing the Word of God.  It was by meditating in the Word that faith to appropriate God’s blessings was generated to save the psalmist from his troubles.  The same holds true for us, we must meditate on His Word, confess it and do it and appropriate His blessings.  His Word has the power to save, heal and deliver us from all of our problems.  (We will study faith in depth later)

17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

  Romans 10:17 (KJV)

[i] The Psalmist found great value in the Torah of God.  Here in Psalm 119 he breaks the Torah down into eight different categories

-Law (Torah) – Connotes the whole will of God as imparted to man for his teaching

-Testimonies (edot)- Revelation (Torah) as a witness of God and His righteousness

-Precepts (pikudim)- Particular guidelines for the Redeemed

-Way (derech) – The path of life delineated for the Redeemed in the Torah

-Commandments (mitzvot)-There is  a great reward for walking in them

-Statutes (hukim)—Permanent laws regulating the life of an individual as a member of society

-Ordinances (mishpatim, beter translated “judgments”) The judicial standard for fair dealings

-Word (debar or imrah) – General term for the expressed will of God
