Quote Of The Day:

Torah Rediscovered – Berkowitz p. 29

“ Every man, woman or child who chooses not to live within the teachings of God, which produce life, is consigned to a place outside of the blessings and protection established by these teachings.”  Deut. 30:19-20

Deborah’s Drash Commentary:

Gleanings From Psalm 119

Vs. 96 I have seen that everything (human) has it limits and an end ( no matter how extensive, noble and excellent); but Your commandments is exceedingly broad and extends without limits to eternity.

ALL humans whether they are Kings, Dictators, Presidents or just  every day people have their limitations that God as given them to operate within and upon this planet earth, but no matter how powerful we are, how much money we do or do not have, we all face the same end. 27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:  Heb 9:27 (KJV)

We all have to stand before Yahweh sooner or later and give account for our lives.    Our lives have their limitations, and great men and woman will come and go, but His Torah/Word is without limits and extends for all eternity.

56 Blessed be the LORD, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant.

57 The LORD our God be with us, as he was with our fathers: let him not leave us, nor forsake us:

58 That he may incline our hearts unto him, to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and his statutes, and his judgments, which he commanded our fathers.

59 And let these my words, wherewith I have made supplication before the LORD, be nigh unto the LORD our God day and night, that he maintain the cause of his servant, and the cause of his people Israel at all times, as the matter shall require:

60 That all the people of the earth may know that the LORD is God, and that there is none else.

61 Let your heart therefore be perfect with the LORD our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day.

  1 Kings 8:56-61 (KJV)

30 As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.

  Psalms 18:30 (KJV)

Vs 105 Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Strong's Number: 5457

Greek Word: phos

Usage Notes: akin to phao, "to give light" (from roots pha---, and phan---, expressing "light as seen by the eye," and, metaphorically, as "reaching the mind," whence phaino, "to make to appear," phaneros, "evident," etc.); cp. Eng., "phosphorus" (lit., "light-bearing"). "Primarily light is a luminous emanation, probably of force, from certain bodies, which enables the eye to discern form and color. Light requires an organ adapted for its reception ( Matt. 6:22). Where the eye is absent, or where it has become impaired from any cause, light is useless. Man, naturally, is incapable of receiving spiritual light inasmuch as he lacks the capacity for spiritual things, 1Cor. 2:14. Hence believers are called 'sons of light,' Luke 16:8, not merely because they have received a revelation from God, but because in the New Birth they have received the spiritual capacity for it.

"Apart from natural phenomena, light is used in Scripture of (a) the glory of God's dwelling-place, 1Tim. 6:16; (b) the nature of God, 1John 1:5; (c) the impartiality of God, Jas. 1:17; (d) the favor of God, Psa. 4:6; of the King, Prov. 16:15; of an influential man, Job 29:24; (e) God, as the illuminator of His people, Isa. 60:19, 20; (f) the Lord Jesus as the illuminator of men, John 1:4, 5, 9; John 3:19; John 8:12; John 9:5; John 12:35, 36, 46; Acts 13:47; (g) the illuminating power of the Scriptures, Psa. 119:105; and of the judgments and commandments of God, Isa. 51:4; Prov. 6:23, cp. Psa. 43:3; (h) the guidance of God, Job 29:3; Psa. 112:4; Isa. 58:10; and, ironically, of the guidance of man, Rom. 2:19; (i) salvation, 1Pet. 2:9; (j) righteousness, Rom. 13:12; 2Cor. 11:14, 15; 1John 2:9, 10; (k) witness for God, Matt. 5:14, 16; John 5:35; (l) prosperity and general well-being, Esth. 8:16; Job 18:18; Isa. 58:8-10." * [* From Notes on Thessalonians, by Hogg and Vine, pp. 159,160.][2]

His Torah/Word is the light that reveals His will, apart from His Torah/Word we are in darkness.   The Torah/Word sheds light on the will of God for our lives.  His Torah/Word is His will.

23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

  Prov 6:23 (KJV)

4 For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.

  Psalms 33:4 (KJV)

6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.

  Psalms 33:6 (KJV)

11 The Lord gave the word: great was the company of those that published it.

  Psalms 68:11 (KJV)

20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.

  Psalms 107:20 (KJV)

11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

  Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)

2 For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.

  Isaiah 66:2 (KJV)

12 Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.

  Jer 1:12 (KJV)

11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.

12 Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.

13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.

14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.

15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

16 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.

17 For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.

18 Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.

19 Then came to him his mother and his brethren, and could not come at him for the press.

20 And it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee.

21 And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.

  Luke 8:11-21 (KJV)

20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

  Mark 16:20 (KJV)

Signs and Wonders follow when we preach the Word of the Lord.

Vs. 106 I have sworn (an oath) and have confirmed it, that I will keep Your righteous ordinances (hearing, receiving, loving and obeying them)

5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:

6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

  Ex 19:5-6 (KJV)

22 But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries.

23 For mine Angel shall go before thee, and bring thee in unto the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites: and I will cut them off.

24 Thou shalt not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do after their works: but thou shalt utterly overthrow them, and quite break down their images.

25 And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.

26 There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfil.

27 I will send my fear before thee, and will destroy all the people to whom thou shalt come, and I will make all thine enemies turn their backs unto thee.

  Ex 23:22-27 (KJV)

11 If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.

  Job 36:11 (KJV)

Vs. 107 I am sorely afflicted; renew and quicken me (give me life), O Lord according to Your word.

His Torah/Word revives us, renews us and gives us life.

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

  Psalms 51:10 (KJV)

29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:

31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

  Isaiah 40:29-31 (KJV)

21 Turn thou us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.

  Lam 5:21 (KJV)

14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

  2 Chron 7:14 (KJV)

20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.

21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.

22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

  Prov 4:20-22 (KJV)

8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

  Romans 10:8-11 (KJV)

17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

  Romans 10:17 (KJV)

19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

  2 Cor 5:19 (KJV)

1 We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.

2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

3 Giving no offence in any thing, that the ministry be not blamed:

4 But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses,

5 In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings;

6 By pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned,

7 By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,

8 By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true;

9 As unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed;

10 As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

  2 Cor 6:1-10 (KJV)

Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light o my path.

[i] The Psalmist found great value in the Torah of God.  Here in Psalm 119 he breaks the Torah down into eight different categories

-Law (Torah) – Connotes the whole will of God as imparted to man for his teaching

-Testimonies (edot)- Revelation (Torah) as a witness of God and His righteousness

-Precepts (pikudim)- Particular guidelines for the Redeemed

-Way (derech) – The path of life delineated for the Redeemed in the Torah

-Commandments (mitzvot)-There is  a great reward for walking in them

-Statutes (hukim)—Permanent laws regulating the life of an individual as a member of society

-Ordinances (mishpatim, beter translated “judgments”) The judicial standard for fair dealings

-Word (debar or imrah) – General term for the expressed will of God
