Quote Of The Day:

Torah Rediscovered – Berkowitz p. 145

If you are a new creation in Messiah, these words (The Torah as given on Mt. Sinai) are not just idle words for you, they are your life. Deut 32:47  In the same way Yeshua is your life the words of Torah are your life.  How can that  be?  It is the only thing that can be true because the written Torah and the living Torah are one and the same!  “And the Torah/Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” John 1:14 paraphrased

Deborah’s Drash Commentary:

Gleanings From Psalm 119

Vs. 114 You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word

The Torah/Word was never meant to be a prison, but a hiding place for the redeemed where within its walls of protection we are kept safe from the evil that is in the world and  found within that hedge of protection are all of the blessings that Yahweh has to offer through Yeshua Ha Mashiach/Jesus The Messiah.

6 For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him.

7 Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.

  Psalms 32:6-7 (KJV)

The Secret place of the Almighty is His Torah/Word.   We are hid in  Messiah Yeshua  who  is the Living Torah/Word.

1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

  Psalms 91:1 (KJV)

1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

  Col 3:1-4 (KJV)

Vs. 115 Depart from me, you evildoers, that I may keep the commandments of my God (hearing, receiving, loving, and obeying them)

8 Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the LORD hath heard the voice of my weeping.

9 The LORD hath heard my supplication; the LORD will receive my prayer.

10 Let all mine enemies be ashamed and sore vexed: let them return and be ashamed suddenly.

  Psalms 6:8-10 (KJV)

17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!

18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.

19 Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men.

20 For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain.

21 Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?

22 I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:

24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

  Psalms 139:17-24 (KJV)

The Torah/Word is our Rock that we build upon, there is no other place of safety or refuge except upon the Rock of His Torah/Word.

Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:

27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

  Matt 7:22-27 (KJV)

2 There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.

  1 Sam 2:2 (KJV)

2 And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;

3 The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.

  2 Sam 22:2-3 (KJV)

30 For by thee I have run through a troop: by my God have I leaped over a wall.

31 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.

32 For who is God, save the LORD? and who is a rock, save our God?

  2 Sam 22:30-32 (KJV)

1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;

4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

  1 Cor 10:1-4 (KJV)

7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,

8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

  1 Peter 2:7-8 (KJV)

Vs. 116 Uphold me according to Your promise, that I may live: and let me not be put to shame in my hope!

His Torah/Word gives us hope.  His Torah/Word is our weapon against the evil one Ha Saten.

5 Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.

  Psalms 25:5 (KJV)

5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

  Romans 5:5 (KJV)

 8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

  Romans 10:8-11 (KJV)

The Whole Armour of God is His Torah/Word.

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

  Eph 6:10-18 (KJV)

[1] An excellent Torah Devotional is the Walk Series, Walk Genesis, Walk Exodus, Walk Leviticus, Walk Number, Walk Deuteronomy , by Jeffery Enoch Feinberg, PHD by Lederer Books, a division of Messianic Jewish Publishers.   Easy to read, with Hebrew nuggets, and illustrations. Also FFOZ Torah Club is a more detailed study, and worth enrolling for.

[2]The Jewish New Testament, (Clarksville, MD: Jewish New Testament Publications) 1996.

[i] The Psalmist found great value in the Torah of God.  Here in Psalm 119 he breaks the Torah down into eight different categories

                -Law (Torah) – Connotes the whole will of God as imparted to man for his teaching

                -Testimonies (edot)- Revelation (Torah) as a witness of God and His righteousness

                -Precepts (pikudim)- Particular guidelines for the Redeemed

                -Way (derech) – The path of life delineated for the Redeemed in the Torah

                -Commandments (mitzvot)-There is  a great reward for walking in them

                -Statutes (hukim)—Permanent laws regulating the life of an individual as a member of society

                -Ordinances (mishpatim, beter translated “judgments”) The judicial standard for fair dealings

                -Word (debar or imrah) – General term for the expressed will of God

[ii] An excellent Messianic Jewish Devotional called The Walk Series, Walk Genesis, Walk Exodus, Walk Leviticus, Walk Numbers and Walk Deuteronomy by Jeffery Enoch Feinburg, PhD.  Published by Lederer Books Messianic Jewish Publishers is a wonderful Daily Devotional to use for studying Torah, along with FFOZ Torah Club which is more detailed.  Both will give you additional insights into Torah.
