F.F. Bosworth – “Christ The Healer”

“The prayer of faith” which heals the sick is to follow (not preceed) the planting of the “seed” (the Word) upon which alone faith is based.”

Deborah’s Drash Commentary:

Healing – Our Brit Birket/Covenant Blessing

14 Hebrew and Greek Words That Refer to Bodily Healing[2]

The foundation for healing is found in the Torah and Yeshua comfirms the Torah by healing the sick in His ministry and today.  God is the same, yesterday, today and forever, He never changes and His will never changes because His will is His Torah/Word.

It is important that you study these verses in context, but you will see as we study what the Torah/Word says about healing and that Yahweh is our healer. Health and restoration are always associated with Gods blessings. Sickness and disease is not Yahweh’s will for us – health and restoration brings glory to God.  Yeshua said that ha satan comes to steal, kill and destroy but He came that we may have life more abundantly.

As we see what the Torah/Word says, let faith arise in your heart for healing, because you have been redeemed by the blood of Yeshua and healing belongs to the redeemed of Adonai.

Whenever God forgave, healing came in every area of Israel’s life.  Sin, rebellion and disobedience opened the door for judgment and sickness to come in, but when Israel repented, healing and restoration returned.  Deuteronomy 28

If you are In Messiah/Christ then you have been forgiven and healing belongs to you as part of the Brit Hadasha/The New Covenant of Birket/Blessing.

You may be thinking, then why is not everyone healed that belongs to God.  That is between them and Yahweh, the secret things belong to the Lord.  Maybe they just wanted to go home to be with Him, maybe they did not know that healing was a part of their covenant, it is not for us to judge or figure out why someone did not get healed on this earth, we rejoice because they are in heaven and at rest.  I just know that the Word of God is true and this issue of healing must be settled in each persons heart individually.  Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Torah/Word of God.

So lets just begin to study and see what His Torah/Word has to say to us regarding healing.

YHWH Rapha is one of the covenant names of Yahweh.   Rapha means bodily healing.

I. 14 Hebrew & Greek words that refer to bodily healing

A.     The Hebrew word RAPHA is translated

1.      cure - Jer. 33:6

Here Yahweh promises Judah and Israel that he will bring healing along with restoration.

6 Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them, and will reveal unto them the abundance of peace and truth.

7 And I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them, as at the first.

  Jer 33:6-7 (KJV)

2.      make whole - Job 5:18

17 Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty:

18 For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole.

19 He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee.

20 In famine he shall redeem thee from death: and in war from the power of the sword.

21 Thou shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue: neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction when it cometh.

22 At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh: neither shalt thou be afraid of the beasts of the earth.

23 For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field: and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.

24 And thou shalt know that thy tabernacle shall be in peace; and thou shalt visit thy habitation, and shalt not sin.

25 Thou shalt know also that thy seed shall be great, and thine offspring as the grass of the earth.

26 Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in in his season.

27 Lo this, we have searched it, so it is; hear it, and know thou it for thy good.

  Job 5:17-27 (KJV)

10 And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam became leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous.

11 And Aaron said unto Moses, Alas, my lord, I beseech thee, lay not the sin upon us, wherein we have done foolishly, and wherein we have sinned.

12 Let her not be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he cometh out of his mother's womb.

13 And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, Heal her now, O God, I beseech thee.

14 And the LORD said unto Moses, If her father had but spit in her face, should she not be ashamed seven days? let her be shut out from the camp seven days, and after that let her be received in again.

15 And Miriam was shut out from the camp seven days: and the people journeyed not till Miriam was brought in again.

  Num 12:10-15 (KJV)

39 See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.

5 Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD.

6 And I will add unto thy days fifteen years; and I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.

7 And Isaiah said, Take a lump of figs. And they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered.

8 And Hezekiah said unto Isaiah, What shall be the sign that the LORD will heal me, and that I shall go up into the house of the LORD the third day?

9 And Isaiah said, This sign shalt thou have of the LORD, that the LORD will do the thing that he hath spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten degrees, or go back ten degrees?

10 And Hezekiah answered, It is a light thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees: nay, but let the shadow return backward ten degrees.

11 And Isaiah the prophet cried unto the LORD: and he brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down in the dial of Ahaz.

  Isaiah 6:9-10 (KJV)

4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

  Jer 17:14 (KJV)

Shepherds (Messianci Rabbi’s and Pastors) are to minister healing to their flocks and take care of them.  Woe to the Shepherd who has total disregard for His sheep and only cares about His own comforts.

1 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

2 Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD unto the shepherds; Woe be to the shepherds of Israel that do feed themselves! should not the shepherds feed the flocks?

3 Ye eat the fat, and ye clothe you with the wool, ye kill them that are fed: but ye feed not the flock.

4 The diseased have ye not strengthened, neither have ye healed that which was sick, neither have ye bound up that which was broken, neither have ye brought again that which was driven away, neither have ye sought that which was lost; but with force and with cruelty have ye ruled them.

  Ezek 34:1-4 (KJV)

                        5. health -   Ex 15:26, Ps 103:1-33, Ps 147:3

The reason given for non- sickness upon the obedient was; God is the healer of His people, here He revealed Himself as YHWh-Ropheka, YHWH the Healer, or YHWH your Physician that heals you.

26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.

  Ex 15:26 (KJV)

1 Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

  Psalms 103:1-3 (KJV)

                        6. thoroughly healed - Ex 21:19

18 And if men strive together, and one smite another with a stone, or with his fist, and he die not, but keepeth his bed:

19 If he rise again, and walk abroad upon his staff, then shall he that smote him be quit: only he shall pay for the loss of his time, and shall cause him to be thoroughly healed.

  Ex 21:18-19 (KJV)

                        7. Physician - Gen 50:2. 112 Chr. 16:12, Job 13:4, Jer 8:22

19 Behold the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people because of them that dwell in a far country: Is not the LORD in Zion? is not her king in her? Why have they provoked me to anger with their graven images, and with strange vanities?

20 The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.

21 For the hurt of the daughter of my people am I hurt; I am black; astonishment hath taken hold on me.

22 Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?

  Jer 8:19-22 (KJV)

Yeshua is our Great Phsyician, He is the Balm of Gilead, He is our Healer, He is the one that makes us whole.

8 The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.

9 The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.

  Psalms 145:8-9 (KJV)

19 He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.

  Psalms 145:19 (KJV)

He is of great mercy. Adonai is good to all.  Adonai’s mercy hovers over us. Adonai’s nature is to show favor and to bless. Adonai’s nature is to heal.

Yahweh’s dominion will displace every sickness and disease that attacks our body.  He wants to manifest himself.  God wants to do signs and wonders in our life!
