n    Matthew 12: 34b ”...For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

n      When the heart is filled, it overflows through the mouth, and that overflow tells us the real condition of the heart.

n      Mt 12:36 "But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.

n      The phrase “every idle word” when taken back to the Greek (which originally was translated from the Hebrew), actually reads “every useless argument”.  This word “useless” is not well understood by most Westerners. The definition of “useless” is “If it does not bring glory, honor and praise to YHWH Elohim” Therefore if it does not bring glory, honor and praise to YHWH, then it is an “Idle Word” Norman Willis

n    The Talmud (Jewish Commentary) tells us that the tongue is an instrument so dangerous that it must be kept hidden from view, behind two protective walls (the mouth and teeth) to prevent its misuse. Mikahael Ben Moshe

n      By Making others feel important, we build them up, as if to say, ‘Your existence is necessary”. This is life giving and life-affirming.  One of the great American Rabbis of the past generation, Rabbi Shlomo Freifeld, was known to have brought a neighbor back to YHWH and Torah observance simply by caring enough to say “good morning’.  On the other hand, speech can also be used to destroy. Words like “you’re worthless” wipes out a person’s self esteem.  The Talmud (arachin 15b) explains that negative speech is even worse then a sword since it kills many people, even at a great distance. Mikahael Ben Moshe

n      A Chasidic tale illustrates the point: A man went about the community telling malicious lies about his Rabbi. Later, he realized the wrong he had done, and began to feel remorse.  He went to the Rabbi and begged his forgiveness, saying he would do anything he could to make amends. The Rabbi told the man, “take a feather pillow, cut it open, and scatter the feathers to the winds” The man thought that this was a strange request, but it was a simple enough task, and he did it gladly. When he returned to tell the Rabbi that he had done it, the Rabbi now said, “Now go and gather the feathers. Because you can no more make amends for the damage your words have done than you can recollect the feathers”.

n    Evil speaking of another has been compared to an arrow that once released cannot be stopped or recalled.  Likewise, the words spoken once released cannot be stopped from harming their intended target.  The character and soul of another.

n    Mikahael Ben Moshe

n     We who are attempting to walk in obedience to Torah (through Yeshua the Living Torah) must correct our speech, change our habits, and learn to walk circumspectly before YHWH and men.  Western Christianity has evolved into a system that strongly preaches what one believes, but that belief system is not necessarily expressed in everyday living.

n    Early Biblical Judaism is contrary to this lifestyle.  It is not what one believed that was preached, but rather, how he lives. The words that proceed from the mouth show his belief system.

n     What would motivate one person to speak badly about another? Low self-esteem.  When a person feels down about themselves, there are two ways to feel better with themselves.

n     #1) Make the effort to work to build oneself up (this is a lot of hard work)

n     #2) Put others down. (the reasoning being, if I can loser others, then I don’t look so bad by comparrision!)

n    That’s the easy way, the ‘quick high” But is that the kind of person you want to be”?

n    Are those the Words you want YHWH do hear come out of your mouth?

n    James/Ya’akov 1:26 If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is useless.

#14 LoShon Hora Part II

n    James/Ya’acov 1:27 Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.

n    Jas 3:1 ¶ My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment.

n     2 For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.

n      James/Ya’acov 3:3 Indeed, we put bits in horses' mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body.

n       4 Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires.

n       5 Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles!

n       6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell.

n       7 For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind.

n       8 But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

#16 LoShon Hora Part II
From Your Mouth To God’s Ears

n      James/Ya’akov 3:9 With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God.

n       10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.

n       11 Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening?

n       12 Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh.

n      James/Ya’akov 3:13 ¶ Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom.

n       14 But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth.

n       15 This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic.

n       16 For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.

n       17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

n       18 Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

LoShon Hora Part II
From Your Mouth To God’s Ears

n      James/Ya’acov4:7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

n       8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

n       9 Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.

n       10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

n       11 ¶ Do not speak evil of one another, brethren. He who speaks evil of a brother and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge.

n       12 There is one Lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. Who are you to judge another?
